10/17/2023 Bikepacking Spain Day 70 p1 : Ride to El Chorro
Photos:
This is the penultimate ride together with Janet on this tour. We have slowed it down a bit the last couple of days. We booked 18 nights in an apartment and Janet will go to Spanish school during that time. We pushed pretty hard, riding back-to-back-to-back…. Days…. You get the idea. And a 40 mile day on some of the terrain we do isn’t exactly a walk in the park! Janet did very well on her single bike, enduring a lot challenges. The heat was probably the hardest one on her. During the rest, I think we might go to dinner a couple times, and have a little wine - something we only did twice during this trip!

Have you ever seen a dung beetle? I heard of these, but never saw one in real life. Today we saw this guy engaged in the Sisyphean task of pushing poo uphill. He even had a nearby friend doing the same. Janet said, “now I don’t feel so bad about pushing my bike.” I’d agree! Aren’t you glad it is not your lot in life to push shit up a hill?

Well if ya wanted to be left alone pushing a ball of poo around would be a good start

Dung beetles use the Milky Way to navigate

Marty Peckins - really? What about during the day?

Apparently, just the nocturnal African Beetles navigate that way.

Marty Peckins - ok, that is great useful knowledge! If I get lost and my GPS is broken, I’ll be sure to look on the ground to follow a rolling ball of shit.
