Aescher Route

Because we were on a bicycle, we started the Aescher Route at the end of Bibern road. We saw people walking up this quiet road from their hotels in Schwende… but you can access Aescher from a number of other locations, including the lake Seealpsee. This is a short, but very steep route that takes you to where you can see a few very beautiful and interesting pieces of architecture.

You can hike in from many different points – or you can even take a cable car up to the top. If you take the cable car, though, you’re still not exempt from hiking. From the cable car, you walk on uneven surfaces down through some interesting caves, and past the church in the caves. The caves are know as Wildkirchli

This church is carved into a cave in the side of a mountain! Mass is celebrated here daily.

A number of cairns in this section; it is the first cave you will come to if you take the cable car – and the last if you hike up from the bottom.
